ABOUT ABOUT

ArtWell@Work and What is: Mindfulness invite leaders, executives, and changemakers to explore how Creativity and Living Mindfully can strengthen teams, staff satisfaction, and longevity at work.

Through creative reflection and mindfulness practices, professionals will learn new approaches to lead by example, to create a team culture of resilience and wellness, and to ultimately build a staff that stays.

Leaders will gain new tools for:

  • Stress Management & Burnout Prevention

  • Innovation & Problem Solving

  • Self Awareness & Authentic Connection

  • Focus & Motivation

About the day:

Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. The building is wheelchair accessible. Please email [email protected] if you have specific dietary or other accommodation needs. Dress comfortably.

Sliding scale ticket options are available to select based on which level is accessible to you. Scholarships also possible upon request.

Please be mindful that if you purchase a ticket at the lowest end of the scale when you can afford the higher registration fee, you are limiting access to those who truly need the gift of financial flexibility. All revenue will benefit free arts and mindfulness programs for Philadelphia youth.

About the facilitators:

Kris Smith, MSW (ArtWell Program and Education Manager), is a visual artist and facilitator who uses art and creativity as a vehicle for participants to understand trauma, build community, and explore identity and social experiences. In addition to supporting curriculum development, adult professional development, and youth program administration and evaluation at ArtWell, Kris designed curricula for classes she led at the Sadie Nash Leadership Project in New York, and has presented at the Creating Change Conference. Kris has a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Psychology from SUNY Binghamton.

Beth Jellinek, MPhilEd, LPC is the Executive Director and Co-founder of What Is: Mindfulness (WIM). Beth’s personal exploration of mindfulness and witness to the power of its implementation with her clients, along with a deep commitment to social justice and trauma-informed care for those impacted by systemic disparities, coalesced to launch What Is: Mindfulness with her WIM partner, Julia Taylor, in 2016. Beth is a therapist in private practice and a former elementary school teacher with years of experience in a wide range of settings - community mental health, university counseling centers, Philadelphia schools, and rehabilitation facilities. She received her M.Phil.Ed in Professional Counseling and M.S.Ed in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education, an M.Ed in Elementary Education from Arcadia University, and a B.A in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Julia Terry, MAT (ArtWell Associate Executive Director) is a visual artist and educator with experience in facilitating and developing curricula for all ages. She regularly leads professional development and staff initiatives on Trauma and Self-Care, Team Building, Leadership, and Inclusion. Julia holds a B.A. from Hampshire College and completed her M.A.T in Art Education at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Art. She has presented at several conferences and currently sits on the Philadelphia Commission for Women, and the Board of Directors of the Girls Justice League. Recent publishings include chapters in “Difficult Dialogues about Twenty-First-Century Girls” edited by Donna Marie Johnson and Alice E. Ginsberg, 2015, and the “Journal of Applied Arts & Health”.

Julia Taylor is co-founder and associate director of What Is: Mindfulness and comes to the practice with an extensive somatic background.  In a society that tends to put bodies in the shadow of the mind or confine it to a narrow space, she is dedicated to supporting people to illuminate its potentials and vital role in life.  Julia is ten years into a private practice as a bodyworker, finding safe ways for people to explore unprocessed material as it plays out in the nervous system and other systems of the body.  Her certifications and trainings are in Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, Somatic Experiencing, and most recently yoga.  She is the director of Threshold Wellness, a space shared by healing professionals in Fishtown.  Julia has a B.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art and has been an educator since 2000, when she began teaching art in the Baltimore City public schools while getting her degree.
